Trying Again

Well we are trying this whole no bottle in the middle of the night thing again. I need to get Lorelai to sleep through the night before I put her in Ellaree's bedroom which needs to be happening here very soon. One of my good friends Laura told me about an article she just read...give it to me, I will try anything.

Basically the article says that after a while your baby begins to depend on the nightly feeding as another meal. Ding, ding, ding...this would be why we are getting up every night and not kicking the habit. This is why it was so much easier to get Ellaree to sleep through the night at 4 months versus almost 9 months. So the article went on to say that instead of giving your baby a bottle of milk give them a bottle of water. It will satisfy them with drinking but will not fill them up and in a couple of days they will not depend on that extra feeding in the night.

Ok so when they wrote this article they forgot to think about babies like mine where she LOVES her milk bottle. We started this little project last night as Friday night they spent the night at Aunt Jen & Uncle Nick's. So when she came home Saturday night we were ready for her. Well midnight came and she started fussing for her bottle. I handed over the water bottle with not a very pleasant baby on the receiving end of things. She promptly threw the bottle on the other side of her bed. Yup not having it. I was already back in bed. So for the next 45 minutes we got to hear her cry and fuss. She was not crying hysterically therefore I did not attempt to help her out. I did however make the mistake of trying to console her after 1 hour and rock her, then put her in bed with us. Something had to give-right! Well when she thought it was play time in our bed I promptly put her back in her bed which in return made her mad. But it was only 10 minutes after that that she did fall back to sleep until 6 AM, old time. So not to bad, 2 hours of being up in the night with her isn't terrible.

I am hoping tonight will go better. But after the whole throwing the water bottle...we are basically going cold turkey. Something has to give!
