Times of Appts at Mayo

What sounded like such a simple procedure to schedule yesterday is becoming something else. This morning the sedation nurse (Marnie) was to call me and let me know all the ins and outs of what to expect for tomorrow. One of the first questions was "does Ellaree have any illnesses". Well no but she does have a runny nose and cough. RED FLAG went off and the nurse told me that more then likely her procedure would need to be rescheduled as they do not like to do sedation if the child has a runny nose or cough as they lay down and are relaxed the snot runs down the throat making them cough and then they will wake up. So off I went to get Elly into see a pediatric doctor in Onalaska this morning to get her heart and lungs examined and for him to say that she was fine to go ahead. All went well and before we left he faxed a note up to them saying she was cleared to go ahead with the procedure. One prayer answered from God!

That was great, well then Marnie started talking about the sedation. One of my questions was if they would be able to sedate her before putting the IV in. Nope they would need to do the IV without sedation as that is how they sedate her is by putting it through her IV. I told her this was not going to work as her veins are not the best and she has been having night terrors since having so much blood done in the recent weeks. So that brought up another decision for Harry and I to make as to whether not to sedate her (this is where she is awake but in la-la land) or we could do a general anesthetic (she would have a gas mask on to go to sleep) and then she would have the IV put in. Well to me it was a no brainer as I would rather her have the general anesthetic (less trauma) then to have to be sedated. After much discussion Harry and I decided that this would be the best option. The only hurdle would be getting a pediatric anesthesiologist that would be available tomorrow for us. Otherwise we would need to reschedule and/or sedate her tomorrow if we didn't want to reschedule. A couple hours later we got the phone call that they would be able to have an anesthesiologist available tomorrow. Prayer number two answered from God!

So as of right now (all things are still able to change) we are to be at St. Mary's Hospital tomorrow morning at 8 AM for registration. Harry and I will be able to be with Elly all except during the scan. But otherwise I will be able to hold her while they put her under. After they have the IV in and blood drawn they will let her come to as the dye will need to go through her system for about 2 hours. So around 10 then they will sedate her (as the IV will be in) and they will do the scan. This will take about 30 minutes to an hour. Then we will need stay for recovery.

Friday we have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Stans at 2:45 PM to meet with him and to discuss her results of the tests.

We will be driving back and fourth as Harry will need to still milk and do his milk route. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for the next couple days as Elly is going through this but also for Harry to stay awake during this too because of all the long hours he will need to put in.
