By the subject line I am sure you guessed it....Elly had a fever last night. Around 5 she went back to sleep and was sleeping very hard. When I touched her I was very nervous as she felt very warm. We got her up in hopes that if she moved around she would get her blood circulating and maybe she was just warm from being covered up. But after a little while, changing her diaper and checking her temperature (which she hates) we discovered that it was 101 which if it is under the arm they say to add a degree so that made it 102. SCARY! I called the nurse advisory line and gave the situation for the day and told her that I just needed reassurance that giving her Tylenol was enough and that all was fine. She said that she wanted to check with a doctor since Elly had all this go on for the day. Thankfully, Dr. Erickson, Elly's doctor was on-call. Thank you God! So I was able to talk with Dr. Erickson and get her input. At first I was a little frustrated to know that Dr. Nolte didn't tell her that Elly was going to Mayo for a bone scan. So she was in the dark until I filled her in. Then she said that is very common for a fever to occur after having general anesthesia. She said that when you are under you don't breath deep and therefore it is almost like the lungs relax or another word would be that they are lazy. If a fever occurs in an adult they tell them to take deep breaths. With a toddler/infant that is almost impossible to get the to take deep breaths therefore she said to try and tickle her to get her to take deep breaths along with the Tylenol. She said that it sounded silly but it did work. She said that if the fever was not better by morning that she would be in clinic by 7 AM and to just bring her in. I love our doctor! She is so cool and knows what she is talking. Anyway, after many tickles and laughs within an hour she was feeling much cooler. Who knew that tickling could reduce a fever. This morning she was feeling nice and cool and no unexpected trip to the clinic this morning was needed. Yeah to God!
Harry got up at 1 AM to go and pick up his milk, 4 AM came home to milk cows and then at 6:30 he was back out picking up his milk so that by noon when his boss, Al, takes over he only has about 5 farms to pick up for the day. We will leave our house around 12:30 to make Elly's appointment at 2:45. Then hopefully we are done for a while with Elly and myself.
Harry and I would like to thank you all for all our wonderful words of encouragement, thoughts and prayers during all this and especially for yesterday. Knowing that we had so many wonderful family and friends thinking and praying hard for us back home was a warm comfort as we sat and waited for our baby girl to come back from her procedure. Patience was definitely a big lesson for both of us yesterday.
