Preclampsia

The definition of preclampsia is characterized by abrupt hypertension (a sharp rise in blood pressure), albuminuria (leakage of large amounts of protein albumin in the urine) and edima (swelling) in hands, feet & face.

Yesterday while at work I started to develop signs & symptoms of preclampsia. Blurred vision, headache, swelling in the feet, elevated blood pressure & sharp pain on my upper right side of my abdomen. I came home around noon to put up my feet, but after many discussions with coworkers, I called into my nurse just to be cautious. Of course they wanted to see me. Although my blood pressure was not elevated to high risk it was still elevated more then normal for me. We did some labs and along with those my urine came back with no protein in it. This was good because the protein in the urine and bad labs would have been either a trip to the hospital and/or bed rest. We did discuss work and how stressful it is right now. After much discussion, Harry, Dr. Nancy & myself decided that I should take any and all precautions and treat this like I have preclampsia due to my history of having it with Elly and with passing out. Therefore, I took a vacation day today to take it easy. I have my regular appointment on Thursday with Dr. Nancy and at that time we will reevaluate how things are going. As for now until Thursday, I am to try and keep my feet up as much as possible, drinks lots of fluids and keep calm.

Will continue to keep you updated as we find out anything. Thanks to those that helped out yesterday with milk routes, picking Elly up from daycare and thoughts & prayers. We are very blessed to have many family and friends that love us so much.
