Friday Night
At work on Friday, I received a box full of Christmas gifts from Rachel. Grandma Judy had sent us our gifts through Rachel since we were not able to attend the Shireman Christmas. Elly was very excited about opening gifts. Hopefully this reminded her of what to do for this upcoming weekend for Grandmother's Christmas celebration.
Elly trying very hard to unwrap her gift.
Elly got a very cool helicopter that sings, does the alphabet, colors and lots of other things too. Plus they come with 4 balls that she loves to throw at her dad.Saturday - Early Sunrise
No rest for the weary....according to Elly and her daddy. Elly woke up about 4:45 AM on Saturday and thought it would be a great time to start her day off. She obviously does this because she knows how much her mommy likes to sleep in until at least 6 AM on the weekends. Well, it was Harry's day off too and he was just getting ready to head to the barn. So I believe they conjured up plan without consulting me first...but they thought it would be fun if WEall went to the barn to see the "cows". Of course, I would have been for this a little more had someone allowed me 10 minutes for a cup of coffee but instead I wearily got Elly and I ready to go to the barn. Then once in the barn, Harry says to me, "you should have brought your camera with". So, back to the house I trudge to get my camera. We did decide later that these will be good pictures to show her and blackmail her with when she no longer has the desire to go to the barn.
See how happy she is to be in the barn and helping out.
Elly loved to go by the baby calves. She would walk up to them but not close enough they could get to her and say very loudly "BABY!".
As you can see in this picture, she is not afraid at all of the nice cows, kitties or gutters. You can see very clearly her pants are a little bit on the manure side. Yes we did take a couple diggers while in the barn. But that is what farming is all about - right? The Rest of Saturday
Wow, you would think that the adventures to the barn would be enough for this ol' girl but of course the day had just begun. Once out of the barn, we dashed to the house to have breakfast and shower quickly. Within 45 minutes of leaving the barn we were heading towards Readstown. Harry and Papa were going to go and get some wood from Grandpa Harry's farm.* Elly stayed at the house with Owwy* while mommy went grocery shopping for us and for Papa & Owwy. By noon, everyone was back at Papa & Owwy's house for lunch. Back in the truck we went to go back home to get ready for company. While I got the house ready, Elly was so very kind as to take a nap for me so that I didn't have to occupy her. Harry unloaded wood and then worked on Elly's room sanding down the drywall mud. Yes you read my words correctly. He says about another half an hour of sanding and then one more coat of mud in certain places and then it will be ready to start painting!!!!! YIPPIE!!!!! Sorry, off the beaten path...we had Garry, Terry & Grandma Gilbeck up for dinner. It was lots of fun and we were oh so happy to climb into bed last night.
Dreaded Sunday
I woke up today with the worst, nastiest cold ever. Where did it come from...I don't know but it has definitely been a "let's watch uppy day". Elly has been great about just playing and being content. Just like now she has obliged me by taking a sweet nap so that I could have some quiet time. I told myself that I was going to go and lay down but the computer lured me into the office. Therefore, I believe the nap idea is out the window. I hope to have better news next time in regards to my feeling better.
I could go on but I am sure at this point you need a break from our ridiculous encounters from this weekend as I do too.
*Grandpa Harry - consider this your warning that Harry and my dad were up at the farm yesterday!
*In regards to my mom's name from Elly. Yes I know I have been spelling it incorrectly. Sorry for that. It is not ouchie but rather Owwy!
