Yesterday was my first day subbing at Kickapoo. Ironically Ellaree has Wednesdays off therefore she got the joys of hanging out with Papa Harry and Nonie as well as the two little ones. I only subbed for 4 hours therefore I worked 10-230. Perfect time, if you ask me!
I have to admit, I new I was working with Mrs. Marshall in the Resource Room but I did not know what to expect. First off I was over dressed. Second I was not prepared for the challenges the day would bring. I helped with...
Child #1 - who was none verbal, physical and mental.
Child #2 - none verbal but she was very smart
Child #3 - Autistic and none verbal
Child #4 - Autistic and very verbal
Child #5 & 6 - Slightly mentally challenged
All these children have big hearts and at times I found myself holding back the emotions. Child #3 had a meltdown half way through and we needed to evacuate the room for the safety of the other children. Boy my heart broke for him as he was so frustrated and no way to show it. I received many hugs, smiles and a couple times patted my arm. I would say for my first day it was a great success.
Will I go back? Most definitely! I felt a sense of accomplishment helping out today. I felt my heart swell for each child today as they smiled at me and just wanting some attention. It makes me come home and give my kids each a huge hug and kiss and thank God they are healthy. It makes my days that I struggle emotionally and physically a cake walk. I now know I will be keeping each of these children in my nightly prayers.
