Our trip to Canada, as brief as it was, was a very good trip. We had an exciting time seeing many family and friends and meeting some of them for the first time. I will try and not bore you with all the details but give you a good overview of our weekend.
Friday we left our house around 8 AM and had a leisurely trip down to Chicago where we were able to stop at Papa Harry & Nonie's for a little while and play. Then Papa Harry drove us to the O'Hare Airport where the fun began. Elly did an awesome job of listening and carrying her own backpack through all this. The only thing that bothered her was security. There was a lot of people and they were trying to rush you through. I think it was all a little overwhelming for her. Once past security though we were able to get a bite to eat and then sit and wait.
Elly loved the plane ride. She was hollering ready, set, go for all to hear. I on the other hand listened very carefully to the attendant explain the procedures and what might happen in case of an emergency. Once the plane started it was go time and no turning back. Harry reminded me with a grin on his face that this had been my decision. Once up in the sky it was a little bumpy or in the aircraft world I guess you would call that turbulence. At any rate, I didn't care for it one bit. I held on for dear life and then the pilot thought they needed to turn the plane. Thankfully it was about that time that Elly thought she needed her mommy and so we switched seats and I was preoccupied with her. Before long we were descending. Unfortunately for Elly, her ears did not want to cooperate and so she did a little crying but not bad.
Aunt Allison and Aunt Meredith were at the London International Airport ready for us when we go there. They were so excited to see Elly and us too. :) We had a short ride to the airport where we had a sleeping baby girl by that time and so we were whisked up to our room to put her down for the night.
Saturday we got to visit with many family and friends and meet many too. I was so happy to finally meet some of Harry's family that I had heard stories about but had not yet had a chance to meet. We had a great time.
Grandfather's burial service was exactly what he would have wanted. We all gathered on a brisk but sunny and beautiful day at the cemetery where the children said a few words. We sang a special song of Grandfather's and then said our goodbyes.
We went back to Paul's house (I believe this would be Grandfather's nephew) and had sandwiches with the family and just gathered to talk about the good ol' days. It was, like I said, exactly what Grandfather would have wanted.
Of course, there is no trip unless there is a pool and some time to splash around. Harry took Elly to the hotel pool after our luncheon and Elly got to swim with Daddy and lots of aunts, uncles & cousins. She had a blast.
We all were able to gather again for dinner and spend time together. Elly was the highlight of the show with her sparkling but very tired personality. She was a trooper through the whole weekend being off schedule.
Sunday morning came very early as we were up and ready to go by 4 AM, London time (they are 1 hour ahead of us). Harry, bless his heart, went to Tim Horton's (I think of this place as a Starbuck's or Panera Bread) and got coffee and donuts. So by 4:3o AM I was filling Elly with coffee & donuts and explaining that we didn't have that much time to get ready and be in the lobby for our ride to the airport. I got a big "ok mommy" and off we went. Once at the airport, Elly new the drill and before asked to take off her shoes for security she was taking them off and putting the on the conveyor belt and walked through the security by herself and first. She is now a pro.
We returned back to Chicago and back to Papa Harry & Nonie's by 8:30 AM for breakfast. Nonie & Uncle Ray took Elly to the park to wear her out some more. Then by 11 we were on our way home. Home never sounded so good. We stopped on the way at Peck's and picked out pumpkins and to stretch our legs but were home home by 5 PM. Relaxation....
All in all we had a great time but happy to be home and back on schedule. Once I have some more free time I will send pictures of our great adventures.

I was once sitting by a pilot on an airplane, and he explained turbulance to me in a way that made me feel much better about it. You can keep this in mind next time you fly. He said that turbulance in the air is just like a bump on the road. It doesn't mean that the road isn't there anymore or that you are going to crash, it just means that the road is bumpy. He said that air is bumpy just like a road and that when planes hit those bumps that is turbulance.
