I am learning that 4H is a great connection for Ellaree. She is not only learning to make crafts & get up in front of a judge but connecting with others in a lot of different ways as well. As are the two little ones and myself.
This weekend we had the privilege to make some meals and deliver them to families that were in need. We did two different types. Saturday we made 8 meals at our 4H meeting and delivered them to varies elderly people that have been shut in due to the weather. Ellaree got a chance to help make the food with other members. We delivered ours to my grandparents. She was so proud to give this simple meal to Big Grapa & Grama. It made her day.
During the week the two little ones helped me make some meals for some of Harry's friends that he has worked with at Kwik Trip. They had had surgery and were back home and doing well. The kids helped me make lasagna & cheesecake. Yesterday after church we took these meals to the two families and spent the day as a family. It was nice to meet these friends of Harry's and just spend time as a family.
It occurred to me last night though that not many people do this anymore. The gratitude that we received for such a simple gesture was touching. But I couldn't stop wondering why this isn't done more often in our society. Why is busyness more important then taking the time to do something nice who is in need? Where did our compassion go towards our loved ones? I love doing this for others. It gives me such pleasure in knowing that their family has a good meal that they did not have to prepare during a hard time in their lives. It shows my children how to share and give love in other ways then just hugs & kisses. This is showing them to be selfless. I love it.
As we continue to do these meals this week for the babies that have arrived and are late I just thank God for my time that I am able to do these for others. May God help you to connect with others in a whole new way as well.
