Last night Harry was scheduled to go to Milwaukee on his route. Milwaukee was scheduled to get at least 8-15 inches of snow along with 34 mph winds. I am not sure what they actually got, I know we got around 5-8 inches along with 40 mph winds.
Harry left 2 hours earlier then he was schedule to leave in hopes that he would beat the worst and get there, unload and get back. Unfortunately that did not happen. At 2:30 this morning I received a phone call that he was East of Columbus and he was stuck in the middle of the road. And when Harry is stuck, he is really stuck stuck. So he called into dispatch and was waiting for the plow to come along. A nice gentleman that lived right there came out to make sure Harry was ok and told him that if he ran out of fuel to come and knock on the door and he could stay in the house until a plow got there. Well the plow came and said that they needed to get a graiter there. So again he waits. At 6 he was still waiting for the graiter.
7:15 he is finally back up and running. Dispatch told Harry to go to the nearest hotel and get a room. He needs to take 10 hours off and then he could proceed back to the lot. Well Harry talked them into shuttling a truck and trailer down to him and after his 10 hours is up he will take the other truck and do his route tonight and then come home tomorrow. At least he will get some good sleep in the hotel. Again unfortunately when he called the nearest hotel they were out of rooms. So he is still looking for a room and following the graiter.
What this means for me and the kids...we will see Harry tomorrow morning, we are drifted shut but doing ok. Harry threw wood downstairs yesterday before he left so we are good and cozy. The kids can't go outside due to the winds. So it will be cabin fever for a little while. But we will be warm, well fed and together. What more can we ask for. We are just thanking God that he has kept Harry safe this far and hoping that he has a safe return. You just gotta love Wisconsin weather!
